Meat with Meaning: Qurban Donation to End Poverty and Hunger

In Indonesia, a country where over 85% of the population is Muslim, religion is not just a
personal belief; it is woven into the daily rhythms of life, business, and community. Here
in Lamongan, i-Sentra not only respects this religious grounding, but it also embraces the
local beliefs to promote a sustainable and inclusive development.

Taking a closer look, Jakamitra also participates in cultural practices of local communities;
for instance, i-Sentra took part by celebrating the Festival of Sacrifice or Idul Adha. This
major Islamic Festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son,
Ismail , in obedience to God’s command. Hence, livestocks like goats, sheep, and cows
are sacrificed as a symbol of obedience and the meat is distributed to the poor,
emphasizing charity in the community.

On July 10, 2022 Jakamitra donated goats as part of its Qurban program. The donations
were distributed across three villages: Sidokelar Village, Drajat Village, and Kemantren
Village. By donating livestock, i-Sentra contributed not only to the observance of a sacred
tradition but also to improving community health, particularly for low-income families and
children who may suffer from undernourishment. Fresh meat provides essential proteins,
iron, and vitamins that are vital for healthy growth in areas where food security remains
an ongoing challenge. i-Sentra continuously supports global efforts in achieving
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1 and 2 which is No Poverty and Zero Hunger.
